CFC/FIDE Rated Chess Tournaments
with the minimum 500 CAD first prize in Open Section

Where

The Royal Canadian Legion 89 Industrial Parkway North, Aurora, Ontario L4G 4C4

Prizes

First in Open Section – minimum 500 CAD. Overall prize fund $2000+ (based on entries).

Format

5 Round Swiss. Pairing software – SwissManager. Two half point byes may be requested in advance for Rounds 1-4.

Players are automatically sorted into Sections according to the highest FIDE or CFC rating:

Section Rating
Open (CFC & FIDE rated) 2000 or higher
U2000 (CFC & FIDE rated) 1600 to 1999
U1600 (CFC rated) 1300 to 1599
U1300 (CFC rated) 900 to 1299
U900 (CFC rated) lower than 899; and unrated players

 

Time Control

90 minutes per game per player + 30 seconds per move starting from move one. Default time is 30 min (FIDE rules 6.7.1 “Any player who arrives at the chessboard after the default time shall lose the game unless the arbiter decides otherwise.”)

Entry fees

Players must be CFC members.

GM, WGM, IM and WIM free entry if confirmed by July 22.

Tournament day 100 CAD; paired for Round 2

For an additional Play-up fee – 30 CAD – a player can enter the higher Section if his/her rating is less than 100 points lower of the Section floor limit.

Cancellation

If a registered player cancels:

  • before Round 1 pairings are posted – full refund;
  • after posted pairings – no refund for cancellation.

Miscellaneous

Once again the Royal Canadian Legion will be offering lunch both days and dinner on Saturday. The menu includes BBQ, goulash, chili, pizza and sandwiches. All very good and very reasonably priced. Don’t bring food from outside to Legion. If you bring outside restaurant food you will be asked to leave the building with it. Please respect the services of the Legion.

Coffee and water provided. Chess sets and clocks are provided for play.

Free parking. Great facilities and restaurants within walking distance.
